Turkey has had several securitisation transactions, particularly of future flows, over last about 6 years. The first securitisation deal in Turkey was reported in 1993 for credit cards. There have been several credit card securitisations since then. Most of these issues have been by commercial banks, generally involving foreign currency coming into the country. The combined total of issuance since 1993 would amount to about USD 1 billion.

Since the major stance has been the exchange risk elimination, another type of securitisation has been the remittances by Turkish workers working outside the country. The first such transaction was done in 1998.
